Dr. Marisa E. De Lisle – Clinic Owner / Director

Dr. Marisa De Lisle

I have been under chiropractic care since the day I was born! My father began his career in Chiropractic in 1975 in Leominster Massachusetts and he was my first Doctor of Chiropractic. My father’s career was more than what he did to make a living; it was a way of life. I was reared with the knowledge that my body is a self-healing organism and, if given the proper environment, it is always moving towards health. I believe that chiropractic chose me and my life has been molded based on philosophies of health and healing, and I was destined to follow in my fathers’ footprints.

As a young girl I remember being in public places and running into my fathers patients and they would exclaim, "Your father saved my life....!" I didn't really understand the depth of what these people said until I was in the clinical aspect of my education. A patient came to the clinic that had not been able to work for weeks, he was having trouble in his family life and he was not able to train for the athletic events that he was so passionate about - all because of back pain! After his first month of care he explained that he was feeling better then he had for years. He told me that he was back to work and was more efficient then ever; he was actually in line for a promotion. He said that he was more positive and social with his family because he had less pain and less financial stress. And to top it all off, he was training for marathons again! It was at that point that I realized how back pain ruled his life! Chiropractic actually changed the course of this mans life!

I studied Exercise Science at Syracuse University and the University of Massachusetts and completed my Doctor of Chiropractic Degree at Life Chiropractic College, West in March of 2001. I am a distinguished fellow of Clinical Biomechanics of Posture (CBP), a research based technique focused on restoring the spine to a more normal alignment thus decreasing abnormal stress and strain on the structure. After graduation from Chiropractic School, I had the opportunity to return to my hometown, outside of Boston, and was mentored by my father for a few years. This gave me the foundation to eventually settle in Seattle and open my own clinic, Northwest Family Chiropractic and Massage, in 2004.

My practice philosophy is driven by service. I strive to build the type of practice my father built - a community based practice focused on increasing the level of health within the body. My experience is in prenatal care, pediatric care, geriatric care and every thing in between. I work with people who have been in motor vehicle accidents or injured at work. I also work with people who don’t have any complaints and are looking towards increasing their level of health. I offer the most science based and comprehensive care that produces long-term results, not just temporary pain relief. I often lecture about various wellness and health topics to businesses and groups within my community in order to stimulate an education process that will follow people throughout their lives. After all, we are all in charge of our own health!

And to complete my life, I am married to an amazing Chiropractor, Dr. Jason Penaluna, who owns a Penaluna Chiropractic Studio in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. Jason is truly my soul mate and I am thankful for his presence in my life. It is a blessing to find someone who shares your ideals, goals and dreams and I live my life knowing that each day is a gift and I cherish every moment.

Thank you for taking the time to read my biography. I look forward to learning about you and your healthcare goals and concerns. I also look forward to guide you to reach the level of health that you desire.

Dr. Marisa Asks some important questions of interest to Shoreline residents - Chiropractor Shoreline Dr. Marisa Asks...

Will chiropractic adjustments make my spine too loose?
No. Only the spinal joints that are fixated and "locked up" receive attention. The occasional spinal joint that moves too much is passed over so weakened muscles and ligaments can strengthen and heal.
Is a muscle spasm a cause or an effect?
With the knee-jerk use of muscle relaxers, you'd think it was a cause. But it's an effect. Chiropractors know that bones don't move unless muscles move them. And muscles don't contract unless commanded by the nervous system. That's why your nervous system is the focus of our Shoreline chiropractic practice.
