Pediatric Chiropractic

Dr. Marisa De Lisle is a second generation Chiropractor and has been under Chiropractic care since the day she was born. She and her husband, Dr. Jason Penaluna, have a beautiful daughter named Olivia. Not only was Dr. De Lisle under Chiropractic care throughout her entire pregnancy, Olivia was adjusted during the first few hours of her life. She is checked for the presence of stress in her nervous system on a regular basis. When stress is apparent a very gentle adjustment is performed to remove that stress. This allows her body to have the greatest ability to adapt to her environment, keeping her healthy. Olivia is not cared for because of a symptom; she is cared for to keep her body functioning well.

Did you know that adjusting a child is very different then adjusting an adult? An adjustment given to a child does not produce a “popping” noise. A Chiropractor trained in pediatric adjusting uses very gentle pressure to remove stress from the body. This pressure can be compared to the amount of pressure it takes to dimple the skin of a fresh tomato.

Why would a child need to be checked by a Chiropractor?

Chiropractic for Shoreline Kids

There is an old saying, as the twig is bent, so grows the tree. In the first 2 years of life the nervous system doubles in size. On average a child falls over 700 times before the age of two. Because a growing body is exposed to many stresses, it is important to be sure the nervous system is able to adapt to its environment.

Gentle Chiropractic adjustments afford a growing body just that: the opportunity to adapt to the physical, chemical and emotional stress that we are constantly exposed to.

How often does a child need to be checked by a Chiropractor?

The frequency that a child needs to be checked varies on the overall health of the child. In general, it is a good idea to have a child checked at each milestone; learning to sit up, crawl or walk. It is also a good idea to check your child if your child is congested due to a cold or is experiencing a fever. Many people have their children checked on a regular basis to insure that they are growing and developing well.

What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
What's a side effect?
It may sound like a bonus; something extra, but chiropractors know it should more accurately called an "unintended effect," and "unwanted effect" or in some cases an "adverse effect." A pill can't come close to matching your body's ability to create and deliver the essential compounds it needs. That's when it's important to make sure your nervous system is working correctly—the purpose of chiropractic care!
